Slightly more off-kilter than typical?

Katie and I both grew up in Melbourne. We met at a nightclub in Ringwood (if you DM us and have picked the location - we’ll hook you up with a prize pack!) and it was love at first Midori. Actually not really, Katie completely brushed me and I had to remember where she worked and just rolled in there one day to ask her out.

The rest, as they say, is history. . .and a sordid one at that! WooHoo! Anyways. . .

So fast forward to present day and we live on the Sunshine Coast in Queensland with our two little ones, Dale, 7 and Ada, 4. Or should I say lived. . .because if all’s gone to plan, right now we’re of no fixed address and in a caravan someplace beautiful.

I’m a bit of a mixed bag, Creative, Director, Cinematographer and Editor all rolled into one and we run our own Creative Agency on the coast - we do mostly brand marketing, TV commercials, brand films, digital content and anything where storytelling and pretty pictures combine. So the opportunity to create for our own brand now with Salt, Earth and Sun is super exciting.

Really, it was this skillset that led me to believe (rather flippantly as it would turn out) that we could just take off for a year around Australia and that we should give it a crack. But good thing we did, because here we are hey?

Katie, she’s the backbone of the family, runs the back office in the business, as well as being a Mum and also a Doula in her spare time, which recently is in short supply. If you don’t know what that a Doula is, it’s basically a non-medical birth support person for expecting couples. She’s amazing and I honestly don’t know how she does it. Such an intense and emotional journey every time. She’s a superstar and wickedly funny, we argue over who should have been the comedian, but she wins because apparently a clairvoyant told her she would be years ago. (Thanks a lot Kerry Culken!)

But Katie all things birth and babies and she’s good at it. It’s awesome. Well, except when she’s on call and bails out on you leaving you with the camper trailer and the kids in the Mary Valley on the coldest night of the YEAR!!! -2ºC Kate! (Did I mention I hold onto things?) But I digress. . .

Dale, 7 and Ada, 4, are our two gorgeous little girls (could be biased there, but hey, who isn’t?) who have the amazing knack of surprising me several times each day with dazzling displays of kindness and then outright gnarliness. They may take after their Mum a bit there. Hahah Ooooh, just kidding babe. x 🙊

Our Camper Trailer. It’s inaugural trip. Unforgettable for more than a few reasons.

In all it’s glory. The camper trailer fully set up with the old Ranger out the back there, For all the challenges in setting up, we loved the old girl.

But in all seriousness, their good hearted little ones and they absolutely crack us up.

As a family, I can’t really describe us as anything less than muppets. We love to laugh, take the mickey out of each other and have a good time. There’s rarely a serious moment and probably a good indication of that is that the kids favourite game. . .no, it’s not Snakes and Ladders, not Minecraft (although that is up there), not Monopoly. . .It’s the aptly titled, “Crazies” a game we made up that pretty much requires you to embody the name of the game. Ahhh it’s all good fun. 😊

We’re not perfect, we don’t try to be - but what we do strive to be is very unapologetically ourselves and we hope that shows. For better or worse. 😉

Being a creative, business for us is mixed between fun and hard out workface. We’ve slogged hard in our business for so many years and it was only recent changes in 2019 that allowed us the freedom to finally undertake a trip like this and so it began.

Thanks for stopping by and being a part of the journey with us. We hope you enjoy the ride, we know we sure will! 👍
